Inslee unsure about T-Mobile-ATT merger
15.07.11
The Puget Sound region has long been a hub for wireless providers. Since the early 1980s, the wireless ecosystem has played a critical role in providing good paying jobs to Washingtonians. Unfortunately, we have seen many of these wireless companies move away from the state. In 2004, Cingular (now AT&T) acquired AT&T Wireless. This removed AT&T Wireless’ Redmond-based headquarters and many of its employees. In 2005, Alltel (now Verizon Wireless) acquired Bellevue-based Western Wireless. Despite assurances that “much less” than 10 percent of Western Wireless employees would be laid off, two years later only 115 of the 930 Washington employees remained.

Area Alltel customers still in limbo
27.06.11
One group of wireless phone customers in central and eastern
Nebraska is finally out of limbo, but another group remains
there.
Last week, AT&T finished migrating former Verizon Wireless
customers in a 10-county area to its network. Some Alltel
customers, including those in Columbus, are still waiting to become
Verizon customers.
AT&T spokesman Alex Carey said all consumer customers were
switched to AT&T by May 13, and a few remaining business
customers switched as of Wednesday.
